Project guides and how-tos

Planning guidance for homeowners — and when to hire Handy Msafart instead of DIY.

How to hire a handyman

Before hiring any handyman — including Handy Msafart — gather this information:

  1. Describe the task in detail (photos help).
  2. Ask for a written estimate with inclusions and exclusions.
  3. Confirm timeline and whether materials are included.
  4. Ask about license requirements for your specific task.
  5. Agree on payment terms — avoid paying 100% upfront for large jobs.

Scoping a fix-it list

Bundle small tasks into one visit to make the most of trip and setup time. Prioritize by safety first (detectors, railings, leaks), then function (doors, fixtures), then cosmetic (caulk, touch-ups). Send us your full list — we will quote what fits one visit or recommend splitting across two.

When to call a plumber instead

Call a licensed plumber for: new supply or drain lines, water heater work, sewer issues, persistent leaks behind walls, and any job requiring a permit. Handyman scope may cover swapping an existing faucet on existing supply lines or replacing a toilet flange gasket — we will assess on site.

When to call an electrician instead

Call a licensed electrician for: new circuits, panel work, aluminum wiring, outdoor underground runs, and any work your insurance requires to be licensed. Handyman scope may cover swapping an existing light fixture on an existing box.

Reading a written estimate

A good handyman estimate includes: description of work, materials (who supplies them), labor cost, estimated timeline, payment terms, and explicit exclusions. Handy Msafart provides this before billing. If something is unclear, ask before approving.

Maintenance for rental properties

Property managers can send turnover punch lists by email. We quote per property or per list. Common turnover tasks: patch walls, adjust doors, replace damaged hardware, test detectors, and minor caulk touch-ups.
